When choosing the self-storage facility that you desire, the most important thing to consider is the security of the facility. Some facilities are much cheaper then others, but they may not have as high-tech security. If you are storing things that are valuable to you, then this will be an important thing to consider. There are a few things that make a self-storage facility secure and as long as they have these things, and each of them are in good, working order, then you don’t have to worry. Here are some things that a secure self-storage facility should have:
When choosing a facility to store your things at, first just take a good look at it. Are there guards at each main entrance? If there are, talk to them and see when they patrol. See if they keep track of visitors for whoever enters or leaves. Don’t forget to check out the fence that surrounds the facility. It’s a great sign if the fence is electrical or concrete reinforced. Question the manager about whether they have strong security lighting and motion sensors that will discourage burglars. All these things, will make your belongings much more safe.
The manager should be able to answer any questions you might have, so don’t be shy. You are putting your things in their care. Ask them if you will be the only one with a key to access your unit. And see if there are security cameras throughout the facility grounds and an intercom just in case there’s an emergency. Ask for a tour of the grounds and check out the unit you will be renting. Take a look at their locks and how strong they are. A good sign is if they have a keycard lock. Some places will allow you to use your own lock though, so choose one that is high quality. See if they have an alarm system and if it is linked to the police station.
If you ask the right questions and choose a facility accordingly, then you won’t have to worry if your things are safe.
